We want you! Come to Chile and become our lead developer

To promote greater transparency in Chile, Poderopedia will be an editorial and crowdsourced database that highlights the links among the country’s elite. Using data visualization, the site will investigate and illustrate the connections among people, companies and institutions, shedding light on any conflicts of interests. Crowdsourced information will be vetted by professional journalists before it is posted. Entries will include an editorial overview, a relationship map and links to the sources of information.

Poderopedia is one of the 16 winners of the 2011 Knight News Challenge of the Knight Foundation. It is a non profit project, entirely open source and it will start in Chile and deploy to other countries in medium-term.

If you are an experienced developer, would love to come live in Chile for at least a year, you are very interested in programming for a public interest project, you have familiarity with open source development projects, and you want to become part of the new generation of developers and journalist who shape the future of journalism and media worldwide, this job might be for you:

  • If you are a ninja developer who is experienced on PHP, Python, Ruby, it`s all good but the core of your job will be to guide us to make the best decisions on infrastructure, frameworks and development methodologies.
  • If you want to be the chosen, show us that you have skills and knowledge about semantic web (handling Triple Stores, SPARQL, Ontologies, RDF & RDF Schema.- OWL.).
  • If you have team spirit, you love solving problems, proposing new features in a collaborative environment, you want to be a mentor for news nerds and developers and you are always eager to always learn new things, then it means you could be the right person to work with us.
